This is a digitally restored and enhanced version of Hosea Ballou's sermon, "A Sermon, Delivered at Portsmouth, N.H., Appropriate to the Occasion of a day of Humiliation and Prayer, Recommended by the President of the United States, on the 20th of August, 1812." Delivered during a period of national crisis during the War of 1812, Ballou's sermon offers a fascinating glimpse into the religious and political sentiments of the time.
