Before Dracula...there was Carmilla! In the forests of Styria, a lonely young woman named Laura welcomes the mysterious and beautiful Carmilla into her home. First published in 1872, Joseph Sheridan Le Fanu's Carmilla is a landmark of vampire literature: sensual, sinister, and dripping with gothic atmosphere. More than a vampire story, Carmilla stands as an early, daring exploration of same-sex desire, making it a pioneering work of LGBTQ+ literature.
